A small accounting firm, built for small businesses
Karma Accounts Oy is a Finnish accounting firm in Helsinki. It keeps the books, files the returns and answers the questions for sole traders and small limited companies, online, in English and Hindi.
Why this firm exists
Small businesses in Finland are usually served last. The fee is set by counting receipts, so a good month costs more than a quiet one. The financial statements arrive as a surprise invoice in the spring. Questions go to a queue, answers come back in Finnish, and the letter from the Tax Administration is still sitting unopened because nobody explained what it said.
None of that is necessary. The work behind a one-person company is not complicated: it is receipts, a bank statement, a few returns and a deadline calendar. What it needs is someone who does it on time, in a language you understand, for a price you knew in advance.
How I work
- One accountant, start to finish. Nothing is outsourced and there is no account manager between us. The person who does your books is the person who answers your email.
- A price you knew in advance. Set by your turnover, not by counting paperwork, with the year-end and the software already in it. The prices are published.
- Work done before the deadline, not on it. Bookkeeping during the month, questions asked while you still remember the answer, and the amount to pay told to you before the due date.
- Answers you can check. When I tell you a rule, I tell you where it comes from. The articles on this site are written the same way, with the Tax Administration and the law linked at the end.
- I say no when it is not my field. I do not audit, I am not a lawyer and I do not give investment advice. If your question needs one of those, I will say so rather than guess.
Languages
With you, English and Hindi. With the authorities, Finnish: the returns go into MyTax (OmaVero) and the Incomes Register the way Finnish law requires them, and you get the explanation in a language you actually think in. When a letter arrives in Finnish, send it to me and you will get back what it says and what, if anything, you have to do. What working in English means in practice.
Your records, and the law
Before I can start, the law requires me to verify who you are: an accounting firm is an obliged entity under the Act on Preventing Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, so identification is part of every engagement, not a formality I invented. Your records stay yours throughout. You can have them in a readable form whenever you ask and always when you leave, and what I do with your personal data is set out in the privacy notice.

Everything below can be checked for free at ytj.fi, the Finnish Business Information System, by searching the business ID.

Two of those rows matter more than they look. Being in the prepayment register means a business customer pays my invoices in full, with no tax withheld from the payment, and it is the first thing a careful Finnish client checks before buying services from anyone. Being in the VAT register means the VAT on my invoice is VAT you deduct.
